2 Peter 1:10-15 – “Wherefore, brethren, labour the more, that by good works you may make sure your calling and election. For doing these things, you shall not sin at any time. For so an entrance shall be ministered to you abundantly into the ever-lasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. For which cause I will begin to put you always in remembrance of these things: though indeed you know them, and are confirmed in the present truth. I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, because I know that I will soon put it aside, as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me. And I will make every effort to see that after my departure you will always be able to remember these things.”
In this verse Peter sees to ensuring that the perpetual truth of God remains available to living men forever even after his death. Here, Peter instantiates Apostolic Succession of the Church to ensure that the traditions passed on by Christ will always be known on earth. We must remember that Jesus foretold the death of Peter in John 21:18 with His remark to Peter: “…when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.” Peter would ultimately be crucified in Rome by the Emperor Nero.
God bless you this day!
